O pacto civilizatório, a pulsão de morte e o desejo incessante: uma trama entre a psicanálise, o direito e a literatura em Grande Sertão Veredas

Abstract

The present article proposes an articulation made by the literature of Guimarães Rosa in Grande Sertão Veredas between the notions of justice, particularly the constitutional right to property, so dear to the field of Law, and the conceptual hypothesis of psychoanalysis about the formation of the civilizing pact, the renunciation of individual desires in favor of a collective life and how all these efforts are inevitably doomed to failure. From the Freudian perspective, the formation of civilization is analyzed in its attempt to protect the collective from the destructive instincts of a stronger minority. However, the pulsating presence of the death instinct and human resistance to submitting to the renunciation demanded by community life point to the eternal tension between the Law's attempts to promote justice. Finally, we will see how Freud, even though he points out the impossibility of domesticating human instincts and the constant search for the fulfillment of desires, does not give up in defending that all efforts must remain in the path of promoting and defending everything that acts in defense of civilization, such as science, education and art
