Do trapiche à hodiernidade brasileira: Capitães da Areia e a representação da atemporalidade literária à luz da pandemia de covid-19

Abstract

This article aims at the timeless literary analysis of the book "Captains of the Sand" by Jorge Amado, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through a socio-legal approach, the interdisciplinary between Law, art and literature is explored, highlighting the relationship between the socio-legal context portrayed in the book and the situation experienced by the population during the pandemic. The book, published in 1937, portrays the life of street children in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, during a smallpox epidemic. Furthermore, the article presents the plot, the characters, and the social and legal issues addressed in the book, such as the lack of access to health, housing, and food. In this sense, the relationship of the book with the historical legislation and the evolution in the Brazilian normative texts will be approached. Using the inductive method and bibliographic review, the article proposes a thorough analysis of the aspects brought by "Captains of the Sand" and its relevance in the society of the time, as well as in the context of the legislative and behavioral evolution of Brazil.
