Risks to the democracy and protection mechanisms

The present article analyzes some dangers to democracy and important mechanisms for the preservation of the institute. To this end, the concept of democracy, political conflicts, risks to the democratic regime and protection instruments are discussed. After studying the matter, it is suggested the implementation of certain norms and constitutional values in the legal system, in order to protect the precepts of democracy. The measures consist of citizen consciousness, normative control, constitutional jurisdiction, respect for laws and non-aggression to legally protected rights and interests, mutual tolerance and institutional reserve, fundamental rights, separation of powers and direct, secret, universal and periodic suffrage.
